My name is Elaine – for the past 18 months I have provided care and support to an elderly lady who was experiencing some memory issues to enable her to remain living independently in her own home.  My duties involved prompting and some support with personal care – Arranging and accompanying to medical /dental appointments- Liaising with OT’s and other professionals – Ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene within the home and maintenance of home and garden – Taking shopping and assistance with meal planning and preparation- Accompanying to weekly social activities within the community – overseeing a weekly budget  – Encouraging hobbies and maintaining regular contact with family members.

My previous experience working in Social Care spans over 30 years.  I was employed with Worcestershire County Council for 23 years. Initially working in a Residential establishment that supported and provided care to adults  with a physical disability and latterly for several years as a Senior Support Worker supporting vulnerable adults to remain living independently within their community.  After leaving the council I gained employment with Age UK as an  assessor for an innovative project that linked lonely and isolated people back into social activities within their community.
